Top 1000 retailers that sell on marketplaces increased their collective online sales in 2021 somewhat faster than those that did not.
With online marketplaces accounting for more than half of online sales in North America, there’s not much question that a retailer can increase its revenue by selling on these big shopping sites. The risk is that a retailer or brand may lose out in the long run as consumers increasingly rely on marketplaces for their online purchases.
Marketplaces affect web sales growth in a series of ways, and it’ll be up to retailers to continue to be vigilant about the wide variety of impacts that marketplaces have on their business, beyond just revenue.
