Grocery retailers arrived late to the omnichannel revolution. Food and beverage retailers started introducing omnichannel services before the COVID-19 crisis. But, as in other sectors, the pandemic was a catalyst that accelerated omnichannel adoption in the grocery business.
Retailers like Walmart, Kroger, Ahold Delhaize and Albertsons have made enormous investments in grocery pickup services and on-demand home delivery. Other retailers formed partnerships with app-based services like Instacart and DoorDash.
